Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
Your First Step In the Right Direction
What's In It For Me?
After graduation from high school as an AFJROTC Cadet, you're eligible to pursue college studies in a technical or non-technical major. Air Force ROTC offers scholarships for Cadets that'll pay most tuition costs for up to three or four years, plus books and fees at more than 1,000 universities and colleges. Enrollment in AFJROTC does not subject you to a military obligation and is not tied to an accessions or recruiting program. It provides tools for success after high school regardless of a chosen career path. However, there are benefits available for students wishing to pursue a military avenue. Qualified Cadets who complete two years of the program and wish to continue with ROTC in college may waive one term of the Air Force Senior ROTC program. Students completing three years in AFJROTC may receive credit for a full year of college level Air Force ROTC. If your goal is to apply to a military service academy, there's a direct application program specifically reserved for qualified AFJROTC Cadets. With all other factors being equal such as grades, SAT scores, community involvement, etc., your JROTC experience provides a competitive edge over the rest of the applicants. If going to college right after high school graduation is not for you, you may want to pursue a military career. If you complete two or three years in the AFJROTC, you are entitled to enter the military one to two grades higher then other enlistees. After three years in the AFJROTC, you have an opportunity to enter the Air Force two ranks higher. You're also automatically enrolled in the community college of the Air Force earning you college credit toward an associates degree.
Tell Me More
During your time in AFJROTC, you'll study the heritage and development of flight and military aerospace policies. You'll learn about the environment in which aircrafts and spacecrafts operate. You'll develop an understanding of flight and navigational principles, and the requirements for human flight. Studies in rocketry, space vehicles, and the exploration of space will be covered. Cadets have opportunities to take on different command positions and participate in Aviation Honors Ground School and Survival programs. Leadership is emphasized each year and the course work prepares Cadets for positions in any military or civilian career. Classes also cover military customs and courtesies, flag etiquette, instruction in marching for parades and ceremonies, study habits, time management, first aid, communication skills, personnel counseling and the fundamentals of financial, personal, and stress management. Studies conclude with a review of aerospace careers.
